Abstract: We completely solve the inverse scattering problem for one-dimensional Schrödinger operators with steplike potentials which are asymptotically close to different periodic potentials on different hals-axes. In addition, this allows us to solve the initial value problem for the Korteweg-de Vries equation with initial data in this class.

This is based on joint work with Anne Boutet de Monvel (Paris 7) and Iryna Egorova (Institute for Low Temperature Physics, UA).
